About the Foundation
We're a small non-profit supporting open, accessible publishing for cultural and community organisations across the Spanish-speaking world.
Who we are
The Fundación Agave was founded on a simple belief: that good tools for publishing on the web should be available to everyone, not just organisations with large budgets. We build, maintain and teach open-source software — and we help others do the same.
Most of what we make is given away. The rest funds the work. We're deliberately small, and we like it that way.
Our mission
We exist to lower the barrier to publishing well. That means software that is accessible by default, documentation people can actually follow, and training that meets people where they are.
“The web works best when the tools to shape it are open, generous and within reach.”
— From our founding charterHow we work
Our work falls into three broad areas, each feeding the others. Teaching surfaces real problems; those problems shape what we build; and what we build becomes the next thing we teach.
| Programme | What it involves | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Build | Open-source tools & themes | Everyone |
| Teach | Workshops & mentoring | Site builders |
| Support | Grants & hosting | Small non-profits |
The team
We're a handful of developers, designers and educators, supported by a wider circle of volunteers and contributors. Between us we speak Spanish, English, Portuguese and a little Nahuatl.
If you'd like to join that circle — as a contributor, a translator, or a mentor — we'd love to hear from you.
